Lenders offering Homeowners Mortgage Support

Homeowners Mortgage Support (HMS) is being offered by most mortgage lenders throughout the UK. It gives extra support to people who are having trouble keeping up with their mortgage payments and worried about losing their home. Use the list below to check whether your lender is offering HMS.

List of lenders offering help through Homeowners Mortgage Support

All mortgage lenders in the UK have agreed with the government to work with households having difficulty paying their mortgage to avoid repossession.

The mortgage lenders listed below have agreed to offer help to their customers through HMS:

Bradford and Bingley
Cumberland Building Society
Lloyds Bank Group, including Halifax and Bank of Scotland
National Australia Bank Group, including Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank
Northern Rock
Royal Bank of Scotland, including NatWest and Ulster Bank
A number of other banks, building societies and specialist lenders will be offering HMS to their customers as soon as possible. These include:

Bank of Ireland, including Bristol and West
GE Money
GMAC
Kensington Mortgages
the Post Office
Standard Life Bank

Lenders offering comparable arrangements to HMS
The high street lenders listed below are not providing HMS, but have agreed to provide 'comparable arrangements' to their customers who are in financial difficulty. This means if you have a mortgage with one of these lenders and you have a drop in income, you'll receive a similar level of support. You'll have to commit to making regular monthly payments and you'll be encouraged to seek independent money advice.

These lenders are:

Barclays, including FirstPlus
HSBC
Nationwide
Santander, including Abbey and Alliance and Leicester
If you have a mortgage with one of these lenders, you'll need to talk to them for specific information about the help they can offer.
